Handbag Cleaning & Repair

Since 1948, Shores Cleaners has been serving our customer’s needs especially when it comes to specialty items such as suede and leather handbags and purses. We are the top dry cleaning specialist for handbag cleaning and repairs.

Leather, Suede, & Designer Handbag Cleaning

Your designer handbag had the look, quality, and features you wanted and needed when you purchased it, but sadly it is starting to show some wear.  Given the investment, the last thing you should do is attempt to freshen it up at home or take it to a business that doesn't specialize handbag cleaning and repairs. That’s where Shores Fine Fabricare comes in; since 1948, we’ve been serving our customer’s needs including handbag cleaning and purse repairs. We even specialize in difficult fabrics including leather and suede handbags and purses.

We learned years ago that there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach when it comes to caring for any item – everyday clothing, wedding gowns, and purses.  So, when a customer drops off or mails in a handbag, we ask them to describe, in detail, the issues they are having.  In addition, we do an individual assessment on every single handbag to determine both the issues and the best course of treatment to return the handbag to its former beauty.

We Resolve The Following Handbag Issues

  • Dirty, stained, or worn out purses cleaned, refurbished, and restored to their former beauty
  • Ink marks, lipstick stains, and scratches removed
  • Handbag stitching repairs on both the interior and exterior of handbags
  • Handbag spill removal from liquids like coffee, wine, and soda
  • Fabric dying
  • Material or hardware replacement
  • Any combination of fabric or materials including suede, leather, PVC, fabric or a mixture

How to Take Care of Your Handbag at Home

Here are a few things you can do to keep your handbag or purse looking like new.

  • Try keeping your purse out of direct sunlight.
  • Be sure to rotate your bags so one doesn’t wear out too quickly.
  • Be sure to address spills or stains immediately.
  • Provide routine maintenance like brushing suede purses with a suede brush, use a leather moisturizer to keep leather from cracking, and wipe your bag down weekly with a soft cloth.
  • To protect the bag’s interior, use plastic zip bags for cosmetics and liquids in case of spills.  Use caution when placing ink pens inside your bag.
  • Store your bag in an upright position in its own dust bag or a cotton pillowcase.  Never store your bag in plastic or vinyl, which will trap moisture inside.
  • When storing, stuff your bag with acid-free tissue paper or a handbag insert to help it keep its shape.
  • When storing, properly position the handles and remove any additional straps.

If your handbag is looking less than stellar these days, drop it by one of our three locations.  We’ll be glad to help return it to the masterpiece you first fell in love with.
